I have this feeling that when I was a kid I did hear it when Gohan returned to fight Frieza during the battle, but I could have just imagined that... In celebration of the final Buu Saga review from Totally Not Mark, I thought it was about time I revisited and updated one of my earliest DBZ covers, SSJ3 Power Up! The original one I did was only less than a couple minutes long, and I never finished it, plus that was 2 years ago now, I've learned and improved so much since then!! I've been working all week on this track, while juggling the artwork for this and Genkidama, while also beginning composing a new short film.... so I can definitely say I went even FURTHER BEYOND to make this- and that's Super Saiyan 3 for you, a power that one must find deep inside themselves to bring forth. Thanks so much to 🤍soviet937 & 🤍darthsensei3838 for making this suggestion! This is probably one of my all time favorite Faulconer Productions tracks. The heroism, the hype, the mystical powers that have been unleashed. I would go the gym and put this music on while lifting weights and it made me feel like I was able to do more than I thought was possible. I combined "Gohan Powers Up" and "Gohan Approaches" by Julius Dobos to make this piece. Gohan is one of my favorite characters- I've always seen myself in him. I don't feel mad or disappointed like most people do that he stopped training as much and decided to focus on more human endeavors. What's amazing about Gohan is that even though he often forgoes his calling as a warrior, it is always within him, accessible if the need is strong enough. It makes me feel that when I am not at my best, and perhaps forgone my training or practice, that it is only a choice away to unlock it once again. For those who are fans of the original Japanese dub of Dragon Ball Z, I wanted to make this version of "Unmei No Hi". I didn't grow up with it as I was only exposed to the Faulconer Productions soundtrack, but later was introduced to it through DBZ Abridged. I went back and watched the original scene with this music and could really feel how satisfying it must have been when this song finally came on. All said, I wanted to make a version that felt like it could come out today, and because I don't speak Japanese, I made it completely instrumental. I almost feel like you could call this the "Norihito Sumitomo Version" because of its use of similar instrumentation to his work in Dragon Ball Super. Also I snuck in a little bit of Gohan Angers by Mike Smith in the verses. Enjoy! Documenting the making of a Pompeii style Roman Gladius from forging to finish! This sword is a re-creation of an actual sword type used by Roman Soldiers in the town of Pompeii. The town was destroyed by a violent eruption of nearby Mount Vesuvius. Four gladius swords were excavated, matching this style. Hey everyone! I'm surprised no one has requested this one yet because it's one of my favorite tracks in the entire DBZ soundtrack. It wasn't an easy one to remake but I wanted do it anyway because it's always been so special to me. I believe there are over 12 sections in this track, all different, some building on the section before, and most just advancing to a completely new soundscape or rhythm. I'll never forget how it made me feel seeing Goku attempt to use the Spirit Bomb on Frieza, hearing the music- it was such a light of hope in what felt like a hopeless battle; we didn't know SSJ was just around the corner so this felt like the last chance. There's no other attacks that take this long to gather energy for so it has to count. I also like the idea that it will only harm those with evil in them. By the way, I managed to get my hands on an Alesis QS6 synthesizer, which I used to recreate some of the more unique sounds in this theme. It was so fun playing with it, hearing all the Faulconer Productions sounds at my finger tips. So I was able to make some of the sounds in this piece sound exactly as they did in the original! If the famous Gladius/rectangular Scutum combo had proven to be so effective for so many centuries why did the Late Empire Romans choose to abandon it in favour of a spatha/round shield combination? Here is what I think. Gladius was one Latin word for sword, and is used to represent the primary sword of Ancient Roman foot soldiers. A fully equipped Roman legionary after the reforms of Gaius Marius was armed with a shield (scutum), one or two javelins (pila), a sword (gladius), often a dagger (pugio), and, perhaps in the later Empire period, darts (plumbatae). Conventionally, soldiers threw javelins to disable the enemy's shields and disrupt enemy formations before engaging in close combat, for which they drew the gladius. A soldier generally led with the shield and thrust with the sword. All gladius types appear to have been suitable for cutting and chopping as well as thrusting. Gladius is a Latin masculine second declension noun. Its (nominative and vocative) plural is gladiī. However, gladius in Latin refers to any sword, not specifically the modern definition of a gladius. The word appears in literature as early as the plays of Plautus (Casina, Rudens). Modern English words derived from gladius include gladiator ("swordsman") and gladiolus ("little sword", from the diminutive form of gladius), a flowering plant with sword-shaped leaves. Gladii were two-edged for cutting and had a tapered point for stabbing during thrusting. A solid grip was provided by a knobbed hilt added on, possibly with ridges for the fingers. Blade strength was achieved by welding together strips, in which case the sword had a channel down the center, or by fashioning a single piece of high-carbon steel, rhomboidal in cross-section. The owner's name was often engraved or punched on the blade.
